Who are we?

The NZMSA Conference 2012 Committee is made up of five devoted medical students studying at the University of Auckland.


Ken Ip (Conference Convenor)

Ken Ip is a fourth year student from Auckland. He is passionate about global health as the Auckland co-ordinator of Medical Students for Global Awareness (MSGA), and in conjunction with NZMSA, convened the 2011 Global Health Fortnight. As one of the first International Federation of Medical Students’ Association (IFMSA) Trainers in New Zealand, he represented NZMSA at the 60th IFMSA General Assembly, and has delivered training workshops internationally in Australia and Denmark.


Philip Chao (Speaker’s Officer)

Phillip Chao is a fifth year student from Auckland. He was elected the AUMSA representative on the NZMSA Executive in 2010 serving as Member Services Officer with the Wellbeing Portfolio, and is currently the NZMSA Secretary. On the international stage, Phil is heavily involved with IFMSA and was recently elected the 2012 IFMSA Project Support Division Director, an important position directing projects, events and campaigns across 98 countries in the world.


Angela Li (Sponsorship Officer)

Angela Li is a fourth year student from Auckland. She is the pre-clinical co-ordinator of MSGA Auckland, and together with Ken and Phillip, has convened the inaugural Leadership and Global Health Workshop in 2011, jointly presented by MSGA and NZMSA. She was also part of the delegation representing NZMSA at the 60th IFMSA General Assembly where she qualified as an IFMSA Trainer and was invited to deliver a leadership workshop to an international audience.


Johnny Wu (Treasurer and IT Officer)

Johnny is a fourth year student from Auckland. He is both the co-ordinator and the treasurer for the University of Auckland Medical and Health Sciences Student Symphony Orchestra (MHSSSO), which has raised thousands of dollars towards New Zealand charities through fundraiser concerts. He attended the 2011 Global Health Conference in Sydney, and joined Ken and Angela in the organisation of Global Health Fortnight in Auckland.


Clare McLean (Events and Community Liaison Officer)

Clare is a fourth year student from Rotorua with a strong interest in health inequalities and the social determinants of health. She is actively involved in the NZMSA-IFMSA Standing Committee on Public Health (SCOPH), and together with Johnny, attended the 2011 Global health Conference in Sydney. The host city, Rotorua, is Clare’s hometown and she proudly expounds the virtues of this beautiful city to anyone who will listen.
